Key Takeaways
- Airbnb’s anti-party technology blocked nearly 11,000 Memorial Day bookings nationwide in 2025
- The system screens bookings based on trip length, location proximity, and last-minute reservations
- Less than 1% of U.S. stays resulted in party reports last year after defenses were deployed
Airbnb blocked nearly 11,000 people from booking entire home listings across the United States over Memorial Day weekend last year, and the platform is turning the system back on for 2026.
Less than one percent of U.S. stays resulted in party reports during last year’s holiday after defenses were deployed across the booking platform.
The company activated what it calls anti-party technology on May 12 for short-term rental bookings over the holiday weekend, marking the fifth consecutive year it has deployed the restrictions for Memorial Day and Fourth of July.
The company’s tracking system blocked or redirected roughly 1,750 people in Florida, 1,650 in Texas, and 1,310 in California during last year’s Memorial Day weekend alone, Airbnb said in an announcement.
The platform uses machine learning to flag bookings that appear high-risk for disruptive parties, focusing on one- and two-night stays in entire home listings that are booked last-minute or by guests located near the property.
Guests who get blocked can still book private rooms or hotels through the platform.

Airbnb says its committed to investing in technology to combat party houses
Despite the measure, Airnb said party-related incidents remain rare on the platform.
In 2025, the company reported that just 0.18% of reservations in Cleveland resulted in an allegation of a party. The company added that reports of parties in Cleveland have continued to decline since Airbnb introduced its global party ban policy in 2020.

Rog Kaiser, the company’s vice president of fraud and safety operations, said the company is committed to investing in technology to help counter disruptive stays in communities.
“Our investment in anti-party technology, along with clear policies and consequences, reflects our commitment to supporting positive stays and countering the rare few who would try to break the trust our platform and local communities are built on,” said Kaiser said in a press release.
The restrictions arrive as Airbnb tightens rules around bookings made by adults for minors.
Account holders who book a stay for someone under 18 and will not be present for the entire trip face account suspension, trip cancellations, and potential financial liability for property damage or law enforcement involvement.
STR operators relying on Memorial Day and summer holiday bookings should expect fewer one-night reservations from local guests as the system stays live through July 4.
