Key Takeaways

  • Vrbo hosts have until September 10 to opt out of automatic Members Only Deals
  • The discounts are set at 12 percent for Blue members, 15 percent for Silver and 20 percent for Gold and Platinum
  • The discounts can stack with existing weekly and monthly discounts, cutting host payouts further

Vrbo short-term rental hosts may want to check their inbox before September 10.

That is the deadline to opt out of a new Members Only Deals promotion that Vrbo plans to automatically apply to participating short-term rental listings beginning September 18.

The discounts are tied to Expedia Group’s One Key loyalty program and are funded by the host.

Blue members will receive a 12 percent discount, Silver members will be treated to a 15 percent discount, and Gold and Platinum members will get 20 percent off.

Vrbo’s own opt-out page warns that the discounts will be added on top of existing weekly and monthly promotions.

The discounts can add up quickly

A host already offering a 10 percent weekly discount would not simply add another 20 percent for a Platinum traveler. Because the discounts apply sequentially, the combined reduction works out to about 28 percent off the original rate.

Pair a 20 percent monthly discount with the 20 percent Platinum offer, and the total reduction reaches about 36 percent.

Silver status may also be more common than some hosts realize. One Key members begin at Blue and reach Silver after earning five qualifying trip elements in a calendar year. Gold requires 15 and Platinum 30.

That means the 15 percent tier could apply to a meaningful share of repeat Expedia Group travelers.

Hosts can still opt out

Vrbo says hosts who do not want the Members Only Deals automatically applied must opt out by September 10 using the link provided in the company’s email.

The opt-out can be applied to all listings or selected properties individually.

Missing the deadline does not appear to lock hosts in permanently. Once the promotion goes live, Vrbo says it can be edited or removed from the dashboard.

But any booking made while the promotion is active could still carry the discount.

For hosts already running weekly, monthly or other promotional pricing, September 10 is a date worth checking twice.
